Description

Twitter. It's everywhere. You hear about this Web site at every conference, and even Betty White mentions that she is on in an ad for a recent movie. The question, though, is, "Does Twitter actually help teen librarians?" In my experience--yes. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Twitter, it is a Web site that allows you to share What s happening?" in your life with anyone who follows you, in 140 characters or less (a tweet). The people that you follow (sometimes referred to as "tweeple") can see your tweets, reply to them, retweet them, or send you direct messages. Everyone that you follow shows up on a running list on the home page of your Twitter account. Twitter users can also group specific tweets by using a hash tag (#). Hash tags will group all tweets that include the hash tag together, and clicking on a specific hash tag (for example the #FF or Follow Friday tag) will take the user to a list of all posts that include the hash tag. There are also people who have "tweet-ups," where people who know each other on Twitter will get together in-person to socialize or to make business contacts.
